Disclosure and the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Groups

Protection of Children & Vulnerable Groups
If you work with young people or vulnerable groups in any way, SANA is now able to offer its Members information and the opportunity to receive a Disclosure check through CRBS and Disclosure Scotland.
Major changes to the legislation are coming into effect:- the new Act entitled, Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007, referred to as 'PVG' is in the consultation stages before final implementation and follows recommendation 19 of the Bichard Report seeking new arrangements for those wishing to work with children or vulnerable adults, to be registered.
You may view the SANA Code of Conduct in pdf format from here.
The new scheme will ensure those who have regular contact with children and vulnerable groups do not have a history of harmful behaviour. It will deliver a fair and consistent system that will be quick and easy for people to use, ending the multiple, written disclosure applications. It will eventually look at retrospective applications so that everybody will be under the new scheme.
It will still check identities, the safe recruitment/policies/procedures/practices and recording of information. The difference is the Vetting and Barring that will be in place. Vetting implies Scheme Membership; vetting on joining; new information sources; constant updating and a different disclosure process. The Barring will show an Adult List; Automatic Listing and Referrals for Listing and Listing based on vetting information.
You may apply to the SANA Office for a ‘Disclosure Pack’ and although the forms may at first glance seem daunting in what is being requested, please bear in mind why this information is being sought. It is required so we can continue to protect young people, the applicant and SANA from any possible problems.
We include in the pack:
We are concerned with only two levels of disclosure, Standard and Enhanced and unless shown differently, your minimum level of Disclosure Certificate will be the Standard Disclosure. The Enhanced Disclosure may however, be required depending on your level of involvement with young people but the box will be already be ticked accordingly.
When the forms are completed, insert into the A5 envelope along with the required documents to verify your ID and address including the Self-Declaration. Post to the Kinross address; DO NOT SEND them to CRBS in Stirling or you will be charged the full fee of £20. SANA asks for a small administrative fee to cover paper, postage etc. You are advised to put a ‘return to sender’ address on the envelope and for your own ‘peace of mind’, you might consider sending valuable documents by recorded delivery. SANA will return these by the same method.
SANA is registered under the Data Protection Act. Please call the Administrator if you have any questions.
