                                  SANA Game Angling Development Framework

As the Governing Body for Game Angling in Scotland, SANA is working jointly with the Sea and Coarse angling Governing Bodies and external agencies to promote the training of anglers. The aim is to enable coaches and instructors to pass on their skills effectively, efficiently and safely.

The Governing Bodies of Scotland believe that coaching is central to developing, sustaining and ultimately increasing participation in angling, as well as providing a service that aims to drive better performance. At all levels and in all environments a coach's role is to guide improvement not only in technical, tactical, physical, mental and life style skills, but also in contributing to each participants personal and social development.

The Angling Development Board of Scotland (ADBoS) was formed in 2007 to support this aim and to ensure that basic common learning paths were available to anglers of all disciplines and that expertise on development could be shared across the sport allowing a common infrastructure to be in place for coaching development and licensing.

The aim of ADBOS is to improve the quality and quantity of opportunities available to Scottish Anglers in terms of both participation and performance. This can only be achieved by creating a sustainable infrastructure that is capable of providing the necessary support not only to enable and facilitate the training of skilled coaches but in many other aspects of development as follows:

                                       • Increasing participation in angling at all levels as well as an increased retention of life long anglers
                                       • Equal opportunities for anglers to participate regardless of background, race, beliefs, or sex.
                                       • Better skilled anglers
                                       • An improved sense of ownership for our angling environment amongst anglers.
                                       • Create a safe environment for vulnerable adults and children
                                       • An effective and efficient governance structure.
                                       • A consultative environment where development reflects the views of anglers
                                       • Support the development of clubs to provide a wider range of services and opportunities to anglers
                                       • A positive impact on communities and criminal justice systems by reductions in negative behaviour
                                       • Robust coaching programme with collateral and programmes that support all anglers from beginners and leisure users through to international competitors.
                                       • A recognised and valued career structure for angling coaches.

This group of governing bodies is recognised by sportscotland as the official route for angler development.
