2012 Scottish Youth Team
Scotland and SANA has a new Youth Team and a new National Champion.
The 2011 Youth National had to be re-scheduled to the end of October which was a gamble in terms of weather and a fishing challenge to the young contenders – a challenge to which they rose admirably by catching in excess of 100 fish. Each angler was allowed to kill one fish with the rest being safely returned. The Top rod, heaviest fish and best newcomer trophies were all grabbed by Calum Robertson a well-worthy addition to the team - article below.
The 2012 Scotland Youth team which will head to Ireland in 2012 is:
Calum King, Andrew Kennedy, Josh Elkin, Calum Stephen, Calum Robertson, Tyler Hay, James Fairlie, Calum Hardie, Calum Clark, Martin Runcie, Jack Hamilton, James Hek, Alisdair Brodie, Calum Tait, Angus Barbour & Alistair Forbes.
All boys this year ranging in age from twelve to seventeen) It’s not compulsory to be called Calum but we appear to have six out of sixteen named Calum - remarkable. Explanations to the webmaster, please (who has a 21 yo son called Calum!)
The overall cost to run the team for a year and take them to Ireland in 2012 will exceed £25,000. and sponsorship is a constant quest – every donation whether from a club, an individual or a business, however small or large, is invaluable to these youths. After sponsorship, last year’s boys still had to pay for much of their training outings and a further £250 before competing in the International – If you would like to help please contact the SANA office or Martin at Angling Centre Stirling (01786 430400)

SANA Youth Champion 2011
Calum Robertson (left) virtually swept the board at the SANA Youth National Final at the Lake of Menteith on 29 and 30 oct 2011. The competition was held over two days and some 30 individuals took part on each day with the aim of qualifying for the national team. The winner was Calum Robertson - he had the best aggregate placing over the two days. Calum, who is 15 and from Lenzie, also took the trophies for the heaviest fish and the best newcomer. Calum had two fish on the Saturday, one of which was 4lbs 10oz and three fish on the Sunday. His preferred method was a slow intermediate line with a size 14 candy booby and cormorants, fished virtually static.
